RoughRiders’ Big Season Ends One Win Short, 8–7

Texas League South Division Series · Riders Field, Frisco · September 2026

The Frisco RoughRiders’ best season in years ended in heartbreak, as the Amarillo Sod Poodles held on for an 8–7 win in the deciding Game 3 of the Texas League South Division Series.

Frisco, the Rangers’ Double-A affiliate, clinched its playoff spot on June 18 with a 13–4 rout of Arkansas, winning the first-half South Division title and returning to the postseason for the first time since 2024. The RoughRiders opened the series with a 10-inning road win in Amarillo but lost Game 2.

Game 3 started badly: Amarillo scored six runs in the first inning. Frisco fought back, and Rafe Perich hit a two-strike grand slam in the third to cut the lead to 6–4. A Gleider Figuereo sacrifice fly in the fifth made it a one-run game, and reliever Ismael Agreda kept Amarillo off the board for 4⅔ innings. But Amarillo added two runs in the ninth, and Dylan Dreiling’s two-run homer in the bottom of the inning left Frisco one run short of the Texas League Championship Series.

Perich and Dreiling, who combined for 38 home runs during the regular season, gave fans one last show. Frisco is still looking for its third league title, after 2004 and 2022.
